Being Mortal
with Bud Conlin
Tuesdays in November, 12th & 19th • 7:30-8:30pm
In-Person or Online • Free to All
Hey there, noble ones. Let's have a discussion about growing older, autonomy, and death and dying using our lived experience, Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, and some additional enjoyable optional media.
Gawande uses his lived experience, along with the experiences of friends, patients and other medical professionals to paint a picture of growing older and eventually debilitating in this country. His experience may be quite similar to yours as an adult child or caregiver.
Other media that you may find helpful include an interview with the author and the following contemporary films available for streaming. Don't worry if you don't have time to consume all of these resources. Your lived experience is enough.

Beyond a book club discussion, the intention is to have a heartfelt dialogue on what growing old means to us and our loved ones in our culture. Perhaps this will be a springboard for discernment and decisions in our own lives.
Those in Austin can purchase a copy of the book through Birdhouse Books, Bud’s Granddaughter’s new book store located on Burnet road.! You can reach out to Abby with any questions.
